Jo Greep

I am a writer, editor, communications strategist, and leader with more than 15 years of experience in nonprofit leadership, political advocacy, health care administration, and fundraising.

I thrive in fast-paced, mission-driven environments where storytelling takes center stage. I can help you get your story in front of the people who need to see it—whether that’s the media, grantmakers, donors, customers, supporters, patients, or voters.

And I’d love to work with you.

A highly-skilled and adaptable professional

After more than 15 years in-house with some of the nation’s leading nonprofits and health care systems, I started First Thoughts Media in 2022. With a BA in Writing and Communication and a Master of Public Administration, I have a unique blend of creative and analytical expertise. And having worked in a variety of industries and roles, I bring a broad skillset to the table.

I am as comfortable crafting irreverent social media copy as I am drafting executive speeches or navigating complicated grant applications. I can help you develop an effective internal communications strategy, drive a media campaign to advance your cause, help you through a sticky public relations crisis, or revamp your website to boost your online traffic.

A dedicated public servant

Outside of work, I am a community organizer actively involved in local politics, advocacy, and public service.

In 2023, I was elected to a 6-year term as Trustee and Vice President of the Homewood Public Library Board. I am also a Deputy Registrar and ran as a pledged delegate for Sen. Elizabeth Warren in 2020.

In my free time, I serve as the founding President of PFLAG Homewood-Flossmoor, Vice President of the Homewood Parent Music Association, and a long-time Girl Scouts leader.

I am passionate about many things, but hold a special interest in health care access and equity, education, LGBTQ+ rights, and youth empowerment. I am always looking for new opportunities to support organizations and companies that are committed to advancing human rights and to making the world a better and more just place for all.
