Jo Greep

I am a writer, editor, strategist, and leader with 20 years of experience in nonprofit leadership, political advocacy, health care administration, and fundraising.

I thrive in fast-paced, mission-driven environments where storytelling takes center stage. I can help you get your story in front of the people who need to see it—whether that’s the media, grantmakers, donors, customers, supporters, patients, or voters.

And I’d love to work with you.

A highly-skilled and adaptable professional

After years in-house with some of the nation’s leading nonprofits, advocacy organizations, and health care systems, I started First Thoughts Media in 2022. With a Bachelor of Arts in writing and communication and a Master of Public Administration in public policy, I have a unique blend of creative and analytical expertise. And having worked in a variety of industries and roles, I bring a broad skillset to the table.

I am as comfortable crafting irreverent social media copy as I am drafting executive speeches or navigating complicated grant applications. I can help you rebuild and re-imagine your communications and marketing team, develop an internal communications strategy for your organization, drive a media campaign to advance your cause or campaign, help you through a sticky public relations crisis, or revamp your website to boost your online traffic.

A dedicated public servant

Outside of work, I am a community organizer actively involved in local politics, advocacy, and public service.

In 2023, I was elected to a 6-year term as Trustee and Vice President of the Homewood Public Library Board. I am also a Deputy Registrar and ran as a pledged delegate for Sen. Elizabeth Warren in 2020. In my free time, I serve as a Board Member on several volunteer-led organizations in my community and manage a travel soccer team (Go Vikings!). I was also the founding President of PFLAG Homewood-Flossmoor.

I am passionate about many things, but hold special interest in health care policy, access, and equity; sexual and reproductive health; LGBTQ+ rights; education and youth empowerment. I am always looking for new opportunities to support organizations and companies that are committed to making the world a better and more just place for all.
